Connecting to an Existing SQL Server Database

 

For the first workstation follow the steps outlined for creating a new SQL Server database. 

 

1.    Start Inquest

2.    The first screen to display is “Open Company Data Source”

3.    Click the “New data source…” button

4.    The “Data Connection Wizard” will display

5.    Select “Open and existing database”, click “Next”

6.    Select “Microsoft SQL Server”, click “Next”

7.    Enter your SQL Server Information (dependent on your installation of SQL Server)

·         Server name

·         Log on credentials

8.    Click “Next”

9.    Enter the database name

10.  Click “Finish”

 

The program will now open with the new database and prompt you for a company name and address.

 

Opening Inquest in the future will show your company database in the “Open Company Data Source” database list.

 

 

Determine Database Name

 

Step 9 above requires you to know the database name for your Inquest database.  The following procedure can be used to determine the correct database filename and its location.

 

From the workstation used to create your Inquest database. 

 

1.    Start Inquest

2.    The first screen to display is “Open Company Data Source”

3.    Highlight the company name in the database list

4.    Below the list of database names you will see “Server” and “Database”.

5.    Use this information when networking additional workstations
